JOY IN JESUS

ACTS 2:21-36 [esp. v. 26]

There are over 75 verses in the NT that talk about the JOY one can have in Jesus. Obviously time does not permit us to look at all of them but a sampling should suffice for our purposes. All the verses concerning Joy in Jesus can be fitted under 3 broad categories- sometimes fitting one, sometimes 2 and sometimes all 3 categories. The first category is:

 

I. THERE IS JOY IN KNOWING JESUS

 

1. There is Joy in Finding Out About Jesus [Mt. 2:10, Luke 2:10]

 

2. There is Joy in Knowing the Risen Lord [Jn. 16:19-22, Mt. 28:8, Lk. 24:41-52]

 

3. There is Joy in Knowing You are Saved [Luke 10:17-20, Jn. 17:11-13, Rm. 5:11]

 

II. THERE IS JOY IN SERVING JESUS

 

1. In Relation to the Holy Spirit [Rm. 14:17, 15:13; Gal. 5:22ff, 1 Th. 1:6]

 

2. In Relation to Suffering [1 Th. 1:6, Acts 13:50-52, James 1:2, Luke 6:22-23]

 

3. In Relation to Others [Luke 15:7, 10; Acts 15:3, 2 Cor. 2:3, 7:13, 8:2; Phil. 1:25, 2:2, 17-18, 4:1; 1 Th. 2:19-20, 3:9]

 

III. THERE IS JOY IN PLEASING JESUS

 

1. Being in Fellowship with God [1 Jn. 1:1-4]

 

2. Abiding in Jesus [Jn. 15:1-11, 26:23-24]

 

3. Being Faithful in the Face of His Coming [Mt. 25:19-21, 23; Acts 20:24; Heb. 12:2, 1 Peter 1:7-8, 4:13]
